Primary movement: DB Snatch/Burpee
Open 24.1 opened the 2024 CrossFit Open with a pure sprint couplet: 21-21-15-15-9-9 of single-arm dumbbell snatches (50/35 lb, switching arms each set) and lateral burpees over the dumbbell, for time, with a 15-minute cap. 180 total reps of two simple movements - no strength barrier, no skill barrier, just an uncomfortable question about how fast you're willing to move. Most of the community finished, making pace, not completion, the test.
| Level (Time) | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| beginner | 15:00 (cap) | 15:00 (cap) |
| intermediate | 11:00 | 12:00 |
| advanced | 8:30 | 9:15 |
| elite | sub 6:30 | sub 7:15 |
Snatches unbroken every set - the switch mid-set structure gives each arm built-in rest. Ground-to-overhead in one smooth pull, and drop (don't lower) from the top. The burpees are where your time is made: find a step-up-step-over rhythm at 90% you never have to break. Breathe on every burpee jump-over. The round of 15s is where everyone slows; hold your burpee cadence there and you pass half the leaderboard.
Official scaled used 35/20 lb dumbbells (see the separate Scaled entry). Further scaling: lighter dumbbell, regular burpees without the lateral jump, or 15-15-12-12-9-9 rep scheme for beginners.
