AMRAP 7 mins: Burpees, jumping to touch a target 6 inches above your reach.
Primary movement: Burpees
Open 12.1 is the most democratic workout in Open history: seven minutes of burpees to a target, nothing else. No equipment barrier, no skill gate, no strategy to hide behind - just you, the floor, and a number that says exactly how hard you were willing to go. Over 60,000 athletes did it in 2012, and 'seven minutes of burpees' instantly entered CrossFit folklore as shorthand for beautifully simple suffering.
| Level (Reps) | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| beginner | 60 | 55 |
| intermediate | 85 | 78 |
| advanced | 105 | 95 |
| elite | 130+ | 120+ |
Total burpees in 7 minutes.
Even pacing destroys hero starts: pick a rep-per-minute target you can clone seven times (14-16/min is a strong score) and drift up only in the last 90 seconds. Step back and step up - jumping both feet burns hotter for zero extra credit until the very end. Efficient movers barely leave the ground on the target touch. Practice the exact standard: missed target touches don't count.
Scaled: burpees without the jump target, or up-downs. The format needs nothing else.
